Arizona Bridge to Independent Living (ABIL), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is Arizona’s largest center for independent living. ABIL offers and promotes programs designed to empower people with disabilities to take personal responsibility so that they may achieve or continue independent lifestyles within the community.
In late 2008, ABIL and other disability organizations in the Valley relocated to the newly built, state-of-the-art Disability Empowerment Center (DEC) of Arizona. The 62,000-square-foot center is located at 5025 E. Washington St. The DEC will serve as a national model for accessible design and collaborative programming.
Future plans for the Center include the Virginia G. Piper Sports and Fitness Center.
The universally accessible sports and fitness center is designed to bring people together with all different types of disabilities, of all ages, to encourage wellness, physical fitness and nutritional health.
The 45,000-square-foot sports, fitness and aquatics center will be the first of its kind in the Western United States. In addition to hosting competitive sports programs for persons with disabilities, the center will also accommodate fitness, health and wellness programs.
The center will feature spacious and accessible sports courts, runners’ track, pool, fitness/training equipment, locker rooms, showers and dressing areas for people with physical and sensory disabilities.
There is simply no other place where people with disabilities have equal and accessible fitness capability with professional staff to advise them in a non-medical environment.
Won't you please help Arizona Bridge to Independent Living (ABIL) to continue its important work in the community by providing a cash donation?
