Position: Aquatic Program Coordinator (FT or PT Available)

Salary: $33,000-38,000 for full time or $15-$18 per hour for part time

Benefits: Health/Dental benefits, 403(b) retirement plan and paid time off included for full-time employees.

Location: Central Phoenix (50th St. and Washington)

Reports to: SpoFit Manager

Job Description: The Aquatic Program Coordinator is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. This position is responsible for supervising aquatic staff and programs, creating a high-quality, safe, adaptive aquatic program for SpoFit members, and overseeing pool maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist manager with recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating aquatic staff, interns and volunteers.

· Provide for the ongoing professional development of aquatic staff, interns and volunteers.

· Develop, schedule, coordinate and supervise adaptive aquatic programs and activities.

· Promote and provide information concerning aquatic programs.

· Assist with registration of participants; maintain related records.

· Instruct specialized programs, including training programs.

· Function as lifeguard, swim instructor and other staff-level positions as needed.

· Maintain communication with members, members’ parents and/or guardians.

· Ensure that health, safety and sanitation standards are maintained.

· Purchase regular program supplies; recommend larger purchases.

· Assist with preparation and monitoring of program budgets.

· Provide member assessments, ongoing progress notes, and evaluations.

· Assist in aquatic facility and equipment maintenance.

· Act as manager-on-duty when needed.

· Perform other job related duties as assigned.

 

Hours: Work schedule requires a great deal of flexibility and is dependent upon program needs and will include some evenings and weekends. Please only apply if you can fulfill the schedule and time requirements.

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervision is exercised over lifeguards, aquatic instructors, interns and volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of current theories, practices and procedures in adaptive aquatic programming. Strong aquatic risk management, and Red Cross Swim and Water Safety Instruction Program. Understanding of state health and safety requirements for a general use pool. Excellent lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and swim instructor skills. Excellent public relations and communication skills (oral and written); strong planning and organization skills; effective leadership, supervisory and problem solving skills.

Ability to use independent judgment and initiative. Ability to manage emergency situations. Physical ability to perform the duties associated with this position. Exceptional ability to work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and the general public.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or related field; two years program coordination and supervision experience in an aquatic facility; two years experience in instructing adaptive aquatics; and two years professional lifeguard and swim instruction experience; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties. Applicants must have current First Aid and CPR certification. Applicants with other relevant certifications such as Ellis & Associates, Inc. NPWLTP, and CTRS will be given preference. Clean criminal background required.
